Long History of Graduate Medical Education at St. Luke’s
St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network has a long history of involvement in medical education, especially graduate medical education (GME). Our network is made up of four hospitals—St. Luke’s Hospital-Bethlehem Campus, St. Luke’s Hospital-Allentown Campus, St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital and St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale.
Medical education programs are conducted at all hospitals. GME primarily takes place at the Bethlehem and Allentown campuses. The Network is dedicated to quality medical education coupled with compassionate patient-centered, technologically sophisticated care. St. Luke’s is a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Clinical Campus for Temple University School of Medicine
St. Luke’s is a clinical campus for Temple University School of Medicine third and fourth year students. St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network also has formal affiliations with the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. We also have students rotating from other institutions.
Internship, Residency and Fellowship Programs at St. Luke’s
St. Luke’s has internship, residency and fellowship programs in such disciplines as:
Many of these programs are duly accredited, both allopathic and osteopathic. There are also osteopathic internships and a Transitional Year Residency Program. The goal of our graduate medical education program is to train young physicians who will have the knowledge and skills to enter private practice and/or go into fellowships for further training.
The Network is also committed to the education of a wide array of allied health care professionals including physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners. We also provide numerous postgraduate continuing medical education programs for physicians and allied health professionals.
Each year, more than 140 residents train at St. Luke's. St. Luke's is one of only 400 members of the prestigious Council of Teaching Hospitals.
Lehigh Valley - Considered One of Best Places to Live, Work and Raise a Family
The St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network is located in the Eastern part of the Lehigh Valley, approximately an hour and a half from Philadelphia and two hours from mid-town Manhattan. This area is considered one of the finest places in the country to live, work, and raise a family.
Residents with children will find excellent schools in various communities. There are many opportunities for family members in terms of employment. Recreational facilities are numerous including golf, tennis, hiking, boating and other water sports, and snow sports including skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating. There are also many cultural activities including a symphony and theatre as well as professional sports teams.
